"And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow Him. Let your roots grow down into Him
and let your lives be build on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truths you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfuness"
How deep do a trees roots grow? Have you ever googled that question?
One article I read said they can grow as deep as 20 feet. I vaugely remember learning in elementary science class the roots grow down as high as the branches grow up.
The root system is what provides nutrients from the soil and water from the earth.
The roots also keep the tree stable.
In Colossians, Paul urges us to let the roots of our lives grow deep down into Christ.
How do we do this? And what roots is he talking about anyway?
The roots Paul is referring to are our spiritual roots of wisdom and knowledge. The only way for them to grow is with the proper nutrients and water. Our spiritual roots grow deeper into Christ as we grow deeper in our knowledge of God's Word. While daily Bible reading nourishes our soul, bringing us closer to God; daily Bible study nourishes our spiritual roots, making us wise in His ways. As we open God's Word and begin to learn it, hiding it in our hearts, our roots of Christlikeness begin to grow, helping us resemble Him more and more.
Come along with me as we grow deeper roots into Christ over on Soul Nourishment. We'll open God's Word together in order to find the nutrients and water to sustain a spiritually strong root system.
