Life has been less than great lately, we've been walking through some tough times. But then You already know this because You know everything. I'm so thankful You do. Today, on this day we set aside to say thanks, we bring the sacrifice of thanksgiving, even in these tough times. And we call on Your name because You are worthy of our praise.
Today we say Thank You, Lord.
Thank You that You are the God who sees us in our distress.
"...for the Lord has heard your cry of distress...Therefore Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said, 'You are the God who sees me.'"
Genesis 16:11b; 13
Thank You that You are the God who provides a way when there seems to be no way.
"You have not withheld from Me your son, your only son. Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Jehovah-Jireh (which means 'the Lord will provide'). Genesis 22:12b-14a
Thank You that You are the God who stands beside us in our battles.
"But the Lord stands beside me like a Mighty Warrior. Before Him my persecutors will stumble. They cannot defeat me. They will fail and be thoroughly humiliated. Their dishonor will never be forgotten." Jeremiah 20:11
Thank You that You are the God who fights for us when the enemy is closing in.
"But Moses told the people, 'Don't be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord will fight for you. Just stay calm.'" Exodus 14:13-14
Thank You that You are the God who confuses the enemy when we are powerless against him.
"This is what the Lord says: 'Do not be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God's.'" 2 Chronicles 20:15b
Thank You that You are the God who walks through the flames with us.
"Then Nebuchadnezzer leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, 'Weren't there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?' They replied, 'Certainly, Your Majesty.' He said, 'Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.'" Daniel 3:24-25 NIV
Thank You that You are the God who is with us in the flood and the fire.
"When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you." Isaiah 43:2
Thank You that You are the God who brings light into darkness and smooths out rough places.
"I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them." Isaiah 42:16 NIV
Thank You that You are the God who walks with us in the valley.
"Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me, Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." Psalm 23:4
Thank You that You are the God who hears our cries for help.
"Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice."
Thank You that You are the God who walks on water to rescue us.
"Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw Him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, 'It's a ghost!' But Jesus spoke to them at once, 'Don't be afraid,' He said, 'Take courage. I am here!'" Matthew 14:24-27
Thank You that you are the God who calms the winds and the waves.
"When Jesus woke up, He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, 'Silence! Be still!' Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm." Mark 4:39
Thank You that You are the God who turns our mourning into joy.
"...I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing." Jeremiah 31:13b
Yes, Father, You are the God who holds our times in Your hands so we can be thankful - even when we are walking through these trials. So today we honor You with thanksgiving. May You be glorified on this Thanksgiving Day.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
"Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and sing joyfully about His glorious acts."
