“I left you on the island of Crete so you could complete our work there and appoint elders in each town as I instructed you.”
Titus 1:5 NLT
Where has God left you?
Maybe you’ve been left in a hard circumstance for a really long time. Or maybe there’s a battle raging and you’ve been stationed on the front lines, wounded and bleeding but still called to fight. Maybe you’ve been left in a puddle of tears with your heart shattered to pieces all around you and you don’t know why. Wherever God has left you, will you believe He has a reason for leaving you there?
I believe we can learn something from every verse of the Bible because ALL Scripture is God-breathed. What I learn from Titus 1:5 is that sometimes God leaves us in circumstances, in situations, in places because He still has work to do there, something has been left unfinished and He is calling us to join Him in His work.
Maybe what has been left unfinished is something within our own lives - a habitual sin we need to break, a wrong belief we need to seek God’s wisdom to correct, a wrong attitude we need His Spirit to adjust. Maybe the unfinished thing is a gift God has given that we have only “half-done”.
Paul tells us in Philippians 2:12 to “work out your own salvation”. Maybe God has left us in our hard places so we can do the work of laying those unfinished, half-done places in our lives before Him and asking Him to guide us into completion; to lead us into victory; to heal us and hold us together; to give us the strength to overcome; the wisdom to believe correctly; the openness to accept His Spirit’s adjustments; the wherewithal to develop our gift to its full, God-given potential...not for our glory but for the fame of His great name, so our lives point others to Him and encourage them to stay where God has them and do the work of completion in their own lives.
So, where has God left you? What in your life has been left unfinished, half-done? Will you do the work of laying it all before God and asking Him to bring that unfinished thing to completion? Will you do the work of cooperating with His Spirit as He guides you through each step to completion?
You are the God of completion. Everything You start, You finish. Show me the unfinished places within myself - my heart, my mind, my attitude, my believe system, my sin. Show me where I have allowed things to remain half-done. Then give me the wisdom, strength, and ability to cooperate with Your Spirit to finish the unfinished, complete the incomplete, make whole what’s half-done.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
